3 Tips For Women Camping Alone

I’m a happy camper.

I have been all my life. As a kid with my mom. As a teenager with my friends. All grown up with my own family. And lately, on my own.

I often return to the same campground, surrounding myself with my favorite memories of family and friends. But I’ve realized that I prefer camping alone. In fact, I love it.

I benefit from a sense of freedom and independence when I get to set my own pace, make my own decisions, and explore without having to accommodate my family’s preferences and schedules.

Spending time alone in nature sparks creativity, inspires new ideas, and provides space for my hobbies like photography, writing, and crochet.

If you’re thinking about a solo camping trip, here are 3 tips to help you feel safe while you’re out there.

Be Friendly

You’ve come for the solitude.

But be friendly too. Wave to your neighbors each morning, tell them the bacon smells yummy as you walk by! Greet them again each evening. Make sure they see you a few times each day.

You want your neighbors to recognize your absence if you happen to not be there for awhile, you know, just in case.

Get An Easy-Up Tent

Make setting up your campsite easy.

Tents can be awkward on your own with only one set of hands. Coleman has an Instant Tent line that truly is doable for one person. Even large tents (needed for extra storage, height to stand and pull your jeans up) can be set up on your own.

Find a video on YouTube, watch and learn from someone pitching your tent model.

Set Out Two Chairs

Make it look like you’re not alone.

You don’t have to advertise that you are camping solo. Set out two chairs, hang a bunch of different items on your clothesline. Even keep your site a little messy like the kids haven’t put their toys away!

Then sit back, relax, & enjoy the solitude of your bustling campsite.

Don’t let the fear of camping alone hold you back. It’s a unique opportunity for freedom, inspiring you to lean into your creative side.

It’s also a challenge, leading to a sense of accomplishment and self-reliance.
