My time working in a money room profoundly influenced my life, especially in terms of financial responsibility.
It was my first job after graduation. I was the Revenue Accountant, reconciling with simulcast partner locations. And balancing the Money Room.
Day after day, I managed enormous volumes of cash, seeing firsthand the staggering amounts of money pouring in from players. The 24/7 activity and the constant cycle of people was eye-opening. This behind the scenes reality contributed to my overall development as a person and a professional.
Many life lessons are learned early in our careers. My unique experience in the money room was more than a job. It was a practical education in money management, instrumental to my success.
I don’t gamble.
And I’m a big advocate for financial education.
This experience equipped me with a unique skill set and perspective, enabling me to achieve success and fulfillment in my career as a Corporate Controller and in my personal life.
- I understand the value of money
- I understand the importance of cash flow and the burden of debt
- I see risk and tend to be cautious
- I’m a strategic planner
Working in the Money Room turned out to be a defining period in my life.
I’m grateful for the lessons, the perspective, and the motivation to manage my finances responsibly.
By reflecting on these lessons, I hope to inspire others to recognize and embrace the growth opportunities in their own journeys, no matter how unconventional they may seem.
